Course Description
This is an 16-week curriculum for students of all levels. Students will take a simple evaluation test at the beginning of the course to assess the level of their skills to group them based on their skill levels. This is to help make them feel more comfortable in their groups. Each session is three hours long. Students will work with both inanimate and live models. A student may take just the first topic (required) or up to all six segments of the complete curriculum. The first topic of the curriculum is mandatory and it is two weeks long with one three hour class per week. The second through sixth topics are optional, but students are highly encouraged to attend all six topics to fully grasp all the objectives the course can offer. The first topic introduces the fundamentals of the anatomy of the human head. The subsequent topics are uniquely designed to teach the students different aspects of the art of sculpting. Course Objectives After completing this class, students will: *Know a brief history of sculpture, its concepts and processes *Have a basic knowledge of skeletal, muscle, cartilage, and supporting facial fat anatomy *Understand the proportions of the human head and the seven universal facial expressions *Possess the knowledge and capacity to build the base/frame upon which their sculpture modeling is made on *Use the techniques learned in this 2D, 3D, brain, hands, and eyes classes to learn and develop skills that allow the student to create sculptural pieces. |

Anatomical differences of the human head of different ages, sex and ethnicities will be explored as well as observations of the eyes, nose, ears and facial muscles will be covered. Students will sculpt skeletal bones, muscles, eyes, nose, facial muscles and skin.

Model a human head building on what we learned in the previous class. This is a live model exercise.

Using four 2D photographic images of a celebrity or public person model a 3D head sculpture.

about the teacher, Mercedes "Muma" Escobar

Muma Escobar is an innovative and passionate sculptor and contemporary jeweler with over forty years of experience creating unique and powerful art pieces for private clients and commercial companies around the world. Ms. Escobar is experienced in working with a variety of materials, such as: metals, clay, wood and stone and the processes of transforming them into works of art. She has exhibited in many private and public art exhibits. Several of her sculptural pieces are on permanent exhibit in Cuba and Costa Rica.
Her art has taken her from Cuba (1983 - 1996), to Costa Rica (1996-2003), to Spain (2003-2006) and now to the United States (2006 to present). Ms Escobar was formally trained at San Alejandro Academy in Havana graduating with the specialty of Sculpture and Drawing.
